Olaug Nilssen winner of the P2 Audience Novel Award 2020
Olaug Nilssen (b.1977) made her breakthrough in 2005 with Turn Me On, Dammit . The book broke taboos on young people and sexuality and was defining for a whole generation. She has since made her mark as an unusual and important voice in Norwegian literature, and covered several genres. In the book and play, Big And Ugly (2013), the experience of being a child that is not like others first surfaces in her work. A Tale of Terrible Times Nilssen shows an extraordinary openness about being the mother of a severely disabled child. The novel was awarded the prestigious Brage Prize in 2017 and has so far been sold to Denmark. Croatia, Georgia and Sweden. Her latest book, The One Needful Thing, brings into perspective what it means for an extended family to care for a disabled child.
