"The Corpses We Planted" is heading for the stage at Helsingborgs stadsteater!
Lina Wolff’s August Prize-winning novel The Corpses We Planted is making the leap from page to stage. In spring 2028, the story will have its world premiere at Helsingborgs stadsteater.
The Corpses We Planted is a sweeping, dark, and deeply human story about sisterhood, violence, longing, and the traces that never quite disappear.
With her distinctive language, dark humour, and keen eye for the human condition, Wolff has created a novel that has moved readers and critics across Sweden. Rooted in Skåne, the brutal meets the poetic, the everyday meets myth, and light meets darkness.
In spring 2028, the novel will take on new life when Helsingborgs stadsteater brings The Corpses We Planted to the stage, directed by John Hanse, who most recently directed the acclaimed contemporary drama “Swedish Discontent” in spring 2026.
During this year’s Gothenburg Book Fair, Lina Wolff will meet the theatre’s artistic director and managing director, Moqi Simon Trolin, for a conversation about the collaboration. What happens when a novel leaves the reader’s imagination and becomes live theatre? What possibilities and challenges does the process present, and what made the theatre want to adapt this particular novel?
We can’t wait to see this incredible novel come to life on the stage!
