Aslak Nore’s "Wolfsangel" making big waves in France

April 7 2025

Aslak Nore’s Wolfsangel (Piège à loup, Le bruit du monde, tr. Céline Romand-Monnier) was discussed yesterday on Le Masque et la Plume. A French cultural institution, “Le Masque” has been reviewing books, films and theatre since 1955 and attracts millions of listeners. Infamous for their brutal take-downs, the critics were, for once, unanimous in their praise:

“Striking, dense, gripping” (Rebecca Manzoni, host Le Masque)
“It’s way above the rest” (Patricia Martin, France Inter)
“Stunning and extremely powerful” (Élisabeth Philippe, L‘Obs)
“There are scenes you won’t be able to forget” (Arnaud Viviant, Revue Regards)
“Once you get into it, you’ll have a hard time getting out” (Bernard Poirette, C’est à lire)

Marie-Pierre Gracedieu, editor at Le bruit du monde, is also thrilled about the book: “Piège à loup is not any spy novel; it is a fascinating account of the dilemmas faced by the Norwegian population during World War II. At the same time, it mirrors our present fears with disturbing clarity… A must-read for today and a well-needed escape into our collective past.”

“Piège à loup” immediately climbed into the top 30 of Amazon.fr. Interviews and reviews in major media outlets like Le Point, Liberátion and Télérama will follow.

Congratulations, Aslak!
