UK’s Akoya Publishing pre-empts "Black Dog"

November 18 2025

It is with great joy that we share the news that Ida Frisch novel Black Dog has been pre-empted by Akoya Publishing (UK & Commonwealth rights)!

Founder and publisher Camilla Hagen says:
“It’s a luminous, haunting work that lingers in both language and feeling. There is something profoundly unique in how she captures time and silence, the cyclical rhythms of life and loss, and how she allows the unsaid to speak so powerfully. It’s a work that recalls Fosse and Vesaas in its distilled emotional force, yet entirely its own in its tone and clarity.”

Akoya is a brand-new independent publisher who is already making big waves in the industry. With their curated list of high-quality translated literature, we think this will be the perfect home for Ida’s incredibly unique novel.

The book was also recently picked up by Denmark’s Batzer & Co, one of Denmark’s most prestigious publishing houses.

Translator Birgitte Steffen Nielsen is thrilled to be working with the book: "It’s poetry, where time is almost completely suspended through the incantatory repetition of a few fundamental things and cyclical actions. Stillness and urgency, drama and silence all at once, the transitions imperceptible.”

Congratulations, Ida and Akoya!
