Stine Pilgaard’s "Wild Horses" is heading to the silver screen

November 6 2026

Nordisk Film Production has acquired the rights to Stine Pilgaard ’s Wild Horses, the much-awaited film sequel to both the bestselling novel and the cinema hit The Land of Short Sentences.

Director Hella Joof and the core creative team behind THE LAND OF SHORT SENTENCES (Meter i sekundet) the most-watched Danish film in cinemas in 2023 are reuniting for the comedy WILD HORSES, an adaptation of Stine Pilgaard’s acclaimed new novel of the same name.

The couple Marie and Rasmus have relocated to the suburb of Husum and find themselves plunged into the chaotic reality of family life with young children. Navigating playgrounds, soccer fields, job applications, interrupted intimacy, and the endless demands of the daily grind, the story explores responsibility, dreams, and the bittersweet paradoxes of modern adulthood.

Stine Pilgaard’s new novel with the Danish title Ti vilde heste was published in September 2026. Jacob Søndergaard, CEO of Gutkind Forlag, says:

The book has received glowing reviews, and Stine Pilgaard has once again been highlighted as one of the funniest writers in Danish literature. She absolutely is, but she also possesses a rare human wisdom and clear-sightedness. That is why she is loved by hundreds of thousands of readers and cinemagoers alike. All of us at Gutkind, along with her many other fans, are impatiently looking forward to Nordisk Film’s upcoming film adaptation."

Stine Pilgaard herself is thrilled that the core team behind THE LAND OF SHORT SENTENCES is reuniting to adapt her new novel:

“When you’ve spent months sitting alone in your basement writing a book, it’s incredible to think that an entire film crew – a huge group of talented people – will dedicate their time and energy to translating your words into images. Having Hella Joof set the film’s tone once again means the world to me. It’s essential that she – just like me – loves all of her characters, and that we fundamentally share the same view of the world and the people in it.

I’m so pleased that Nordisk Film wants to continue the universe, as I also view my novels as extensions of one another. While it isn’t an autobiography, Ti vilde heste draws on moods and emotional states from my own life, and I can’t wait to see them interpreted and brought to life by Sofie Torp and Thomas Hwan, and adapted by Jenny Lund Madsen, whom I consider a master of narrative plotting.

I have immense faith in the entire team – not least because several of my favorite scenes in THE LAND OF SHORT SENTENCES were actually the ones created specifically for the screen and not lifted straight from the page. It will be so exciting to see what they bring to WILD HORSES."
